SANCTUARY
Inspiration
"Sanctuary" is a VR experience inspired by the use of space in Playdead's game "Inside" and the architecture of Tadao Ando. I wanted to create something that had a real sense of space, and so I turned to VR. This was my first real 3D project and I learned a lot.

3D Model and Render:
I modeled, textured, animated, and rendered this project in 3DsMax because I had some experience there.
I created the waves using multiple noise modifiers and experimented with textures till I got a look I was happy with.
In order to render this as a 360 video in 3DsMax I had to use a plugin that would render all 6 sides of the camera at once and stitch them together.
Audio and VR:
I composited this video in Adobe Premiere, where I also added the audio.
Originally I was thinking of experimenting with spatial binaural audio, but when I decided to work in VR, I realized that the spatial audio didn’t really work anymore.
In order to make this video work on Youtube VR, I had to inject the clip with extra metadata before uploading.
Rendering Limitations:
In order to export this video in VR I needed to render 6 angles for every frame. This greatly increased render times. At the time I was trying to render this on my laptop and there was nothing I could do but decrease a lot of the detail in the water and the resolution of the render
